National Economic Gardening Map

This map illustrates the number of Economic Gardening Projects throughout the United States. Economic Gardening embraces strategies to grow existing second-stage businesses. It is an innovative entrepreneur-centered economic growth strategy that offers balance to the traditional economic practice of business recruitment, often referred to as economic hunting.

The initiatives shown here were gathered from a number of sources and represent both state and regional level projects. Regional level projects focus on a city, county or regional area. They are classified with the following Certification Criteria:

Level 1 – High Fidelity – States and regions certified, currently enrolled in certification program with the National Center for Economic Gardening (NCEG) or contracting with NCEG for a pilot program.

Level 2 – High Potential – States and regions expressing an interest in EG and the option of conducting a pilot program after hosting a presentation or attending a training session on high fidelity programs from the NCEG.

Level 3 – Low Fidelity – Programs, organizations or regions adopting the big picture philosophy of EG, without differentiating services or following high fidelity standards or protocol.
